For us, the old town of Nice was the highlight of the two days. Here you will find everything that corresponds to the typical French Cote d’Azur idea – colorful facades, great cafés, inviting restaurants, farmers‘ markets and a cathedral.

For a breathtaking sunset with a view of Nice, we can definitely recommend walking up to the Point de vue Colline. From the Plage Publique de Castel, a few steps lead up to the Tour Bellanda, from where you can walk further up to the viewpoint.

The heart of Nice is Place Masséna, which connects the old town with the Jean Medecin shopping street via the Fountain du Soleil. The square is known for its black and white checkered cobblestones and reddish-ochre facades.

After watching the sunset from Point de vue Colline or from Cadran Solaire, Port Lympia invites you to take an evening stroll and to have a look at all the beautiful boats.

Probably one of the most special restaurants we have ever been to. Le Plongeoir is located just a few meters above the waves of the Mediterranean. Built on a rock, it is connected by a footbridge and a charming pavilion.

In the heart of the old town, you can be enchanted by the gourmet restaurant Le Panier. The French cuisine paired with a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere makes for a great evening.

Travel Guide Nice

For us, the Yelo Promenade by Sonder was the perfect accommodation for our two days in Nice, as it was affordable and yet very well equipped and clean. Public transport was just around the corner and the room had a direct view of the beach.

If you want to stay in a prime location and pay a little more per night, then La Pérouse is the place for you. Directly below the Colline du Château park, from where you can watch a breathtaking sunset.

The Pearl of Côte d’Azur

Summary

The fact that Nice is not too big and a lot of the action takes place around the old town means that, in our opinion, three whole days are enough to get to know the city very well by foot.

In addition to wonderful restaurants, beautiful beaches and breathtaking views directly within the city, Nice is the perfect place to explore the surrounding towns and capes of southern France.

How to get around

Depending on whether you only want to visit Nice or also surrounding cities such as Cannes, Antibes or Monaco, we would recommend to rent a car, as this is the most relaxed and flexible way to get from one place to another.

However, if you prefer to use public transport, this works just as well on the Côte d’Azur. Whether by bus or train, you can reach everything very easily from Nice.

Travel time

Between May and September you’ll probably experience very high temperatures and sunshine most of the time.

During offseason in April and October you’ll have still sunny days but the temperature starts falling to 13-18°C.

Plus point is that it isn’t that crowded anymore which also leads to less opened restaurants and bars.

We're all ears - tell us what's on your mind.
