By far the biggest highlight from our point of view. The impressive cathedral is the heart of Florence and was always the focal point for further sightseeing for us. We would recommend starting your day there. For the early birds – We were there around 7 in the morning and therefore had the whole square to ourselves.

The most famous bridge in Florence is the Ponte Vecchio. There are numerous small jewelry stores on it that invite you to browse. It is the link between Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti, which are separated by the River Arno. Right next to the bridge is the Corridoio Vasariano, which is often used as a great picture motif.

For those who love to walk up high to get a breathtaking view over the city, we can only warmly recommend Piazzale Michelangelo. At sunset, this square is the place to be and quite crowded. So if you want to avoid the crowds, you should go at sunrise.

On the way from Ponte Vecchio to Piazzale Michelangelo is the Giardino Bardini, a smaller garden but for us the most beautiful in Florence. The garden is also less visited than its big brother „Boboli“. The view over Florence and the peace and quiet you can enjoy there is definitely worth the visit.

Are you looking for THE sandwich? Then All‘ Antico Vinaio is the place for you. They probably have the best focaccia we’ve ever eaten.

Once a flower store, now a café. The charm created by the interior design coupled with a delicious breakfast is definitely a good start into the day. The flower wall in front of the café is a well-known photo motif. The prices here are slightly above average. But it’s still worth it for a cup of coffee or tea.

Important! Book your table as soon as you know you are going to Florence. The famous Parmesan wheel at the Osteria Pastella is world-famous and therefore usually always fully booked.

Just like at La Ménagère, you can start the day with a good breakfast here. The Ditta Artigianale is known for its coffee specialties and is also slightly cheaper than La Ménagère.

Fortunately, we discovered this gem by chance. And we were able to book the junior suite with balcony relatively cheaply, as a few other guests had canceled the room shortly before our trip. Here you have a breathtaking view of Florence that you probably won’t get anywhere else from this angle.

We didn’t stay here, but wanted to offer you a few alternatives that also caught our eye. The Boutique Hotel del Corso has a great roof terrace with a direct view of the cathedral and is therefore very centrally located in Florence, making it the perfect starting point for a tour of discovery.

The city of Michelangelo

Summary

Florence is the epitome of dolce vita and Italian art history. Even though we were only lucky enough to visit Florence for a short time, this was enough to say that a visit over several days is definitely worthwhile.

Due to the countless possibilities, such as spending time in beautiful gardens, at exciting museums or with a delicious culinary feast, Florence is a must-visit on a trip to Tuscany!

How to get around

Within Florence, everything is within walking distance as long as you stay in the city center. Otherwise, we used public transport, which is perfectly connected, or an e-scooter if we needed to get around quickly.

Travel time

The best time to visit Florence is during the spring (April to June) and fall months (September to October).

During this time, the weather is generally pleasant, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds than in the peak summer months.
